ECB launches two initiatives to expand cricket in state secondary schools

The England and Wales Cricket Board has launched Cricket For Teachers and Secondary Countdown Cricket nationally, following a pilot during the 2025/26 academic year.

Every Recreational Cricket Board across England and Wales will receive funding to offer both initiatives to state secondary schools in its area:

• Cricket For Teachers: free training for PE teachers, supported by equipment, resources and ongoing help to deliver cricket sessions for students of all abilities.

• Secondary Countdown Cricket: a soft ball competition for 11- to 16-year-olds, with an adaptable format that can be played indoors or outdoors.

Together, the programmes aim to give schools the teaching support and playing opportunities needed to make cricket a regular part of school sport.
