Around 90,000 schoolchildren across Greater Manchester will benefit from free Bee Network tram travel under a new 12-month sponsorship arrangement supported by Aviva.
Delivered with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), the initiative aims to remove travel costs as a barrier to educational trips, giving more pupils access to the region’s museums, galleries, theatres, green spaces and other attractions.
Schools can apply for free travel for groups of 10 or more, with journeys available after 9.30am on weekdays or at any time during weekends.
The initiative builds on TfGM’s previous ‘Kid for a Quid’ scheme, which was used by more than 40,000 children and 5,700 accompanying adults. The partnership comes as school visits to Greater Manchester cultural venues remain below pre-Covid levels, with cost and transport among the barriers to participation.
Tom Whiteside, Head of Sponsorship at Aviva, said: “Aviva is committed to supporting culture and creativity across the North West and is proud to support this partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester. Through our partnership with Aviva Studios, we see every day how the arts can inspire, connect and enrich communities. By helping more young people access the region’s vibrant cultural experiences, this initiative supports a more inclusive and connected Greater Manchester.”
